Corinthians began cleaning the Neo Química Arena on Wednesday, a project expected to run for around 90 days.

According to Globo.com, the club had planned to start at the beginning of the World Cup break, but bureaucracy delayed the schedule, including hiring the contractor, setting the budget and signing the deal.

A safety certificate was also needed before staff could operate inside the stadium.

The clean covers all external areas, the roof and facades, plus the interior such as stands, corridors, hospitality boxes and other facilities. It also includes replacing the atrium lighting.

During the pause in fixtures the club also replaced the pitch at the Neo Química Arena.

Corinthians are due back at the stadium on 23 July, when they host Remo in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
