According to Meu Timao, Corinthians’ acting Deliberative Council president Leonardo Pantaleão has defended sending the base text of the statute reform to the General Assembly on 20 June, despite councillors opposing it.
Monday night’s meeting at the Teatro do Parque São Jorge concluded voting on the remaining highlights of the reform. Initially convened to settle how the Conselho de Orientação, Cori, would be elected, councillors rejected any role for members in choosing Cori’s elected representatives.
Pantaleão called the criticism natural and said debate was expected because the current statute does not require the council to pre-approve content before it goes to members, only to recognise the need for reform. He said the Assembly should ratify the council’s decisions on both the base text and the highlights. He added that, among the highlights, only those approved by the council will be submitted.
He also addressed an attempt to annul the Assembly call lodged by councillor Felipe Ezabella. Pantaleão said the request was technical and respectful, that he analysed the points, replied by email and authorised both the petition and his response to be recorded in the minutes for transparency.
On the risk of court action, he noted that challenges can arise for reasons of conviction or personal interest, and that he cannot control who files a case. Any dispute, he added, would concern interpretations of the statute.
The first Assembly set for 18 April was suspended by an injunction granted at Ezabella’s request after the club supported the suspension, and was later cancelled.
