Jesse Lingard will not be available for Corinthians against Grêmio on Saturday, having been granted leave to address personal matters in England.
The club said in a statement that he was authorised by the football department and Fernando Diniz to travel to England on Thursday, 28 May, to deal with family matters. He will miss the Brasileirão match at Arena do Grêmio on Saturday, 30 May, which starts at 17:30 in round 18.
Lingard featured briefly on Wednesday as Corinthians lost 2-0 to Argentina’s Platense at Neo Química Arena in the final round of the Libertadores group stage. The Englishman replaced Rodrigo Garro in the 38th minute of the second half.
He arrived in Brazil on 1 March and signed a contract running to the end of 2026, with an automatic one-year extension if set targets are met. He debuted a month later after completing paperwork for his first stay in the country.
To date he has made 17 appearances and has featured in all 15 matches under Fernando Diniz. His tally stands at two goals and one assist.
Lingard joins five other absentees for the trip to Porto Alegre. João Pedro Tchoca, Hugo Farias, Kayke and Vitinho remain in the medical department, while Memphis Depay has been released to link up with the Netherlands squad for World Cup preparations.
