José Alexandre Soares Ferreira has reached his 1,000th Corinthians match inside stadiums, a feat marked by a club tribute on Corinthians TV on Tuesday, according to Meu Timao.
The milestone came in the draw against Portuguesa on 22 February. Sharing a birthday with the club on 1 September, he began going to games aged four, starting on 25 May 1977 when Corinthians beat Noroeste 5-1 in the Campeonato Paulista.
He did not witness a title in person until more than 10 years later. He recalled defying his father to travel to Campinas for the 1988 Paulista decider against Guarani, seeing Viola slide in the goal that sealed the trophy after also attending the first match at Morumbi.
Ferreira keeps an archive of tickets and records from every game he has attended. He picked the 2000 Club World Cup final against Vasco as the standout, and also cited Ricardinho’s strike against Santos that secured 2001 Paulista qualification, plus Neto’s goal against Flamengo at the Maracanã in 1991.
At Neo Química Arena, he rates Jô’s derby goal against Palmeiras in the 2017 Paulistão as the best he has seen, noting Gabriel’s contentious dismissal, Corinthians down to 10 and Palmeiras on top before the breakthrough.
Now taking his 19-year-old daughter to matches, he said he only began tracking totals after reaching 800, alerted by friends, and has since marked each milestone with a commemorative T-shirt. He described his bond with Corinthians as pure passion, something felt rather than explained, invoking Sócrates.
