According to Globo.com, Corinthians are seeking to add a specialist holding midfielder in this window and are monitoring Vini Souza, 26, who is contracted to Wolfsburg.

Signed in the middle of last year, Vini began the European season as a starter, but lost his place after coach Paul Simonis departed. He was an unused substitute in the last five Bundesliga rounds.

Corinthians have enquired about a potential loan. The midfielder has a contract until mid 2030.

A return to Brazil, previously ruled out by Vini and his representatives, has been considered in recent weeks.

Dorival Júnior said the squad needs another option in front of the defence, with Maycon gone and Raniele often left to cover the role alone. He noted Charles can fill in, but wants a deeper group with more options.

Vini came through at Flamengo alongside Hugo Souza, Matheuzinho and Gustavo Henrique, and worked with Renan Bloise, now Corinthians’ market analysis manager. In 2020 he moved to Lommel SK, then KV Mechelen, before spells at Espanyol and an impressive stint at Sheffield United.

So far in 2026, Corinthians have announced Gabriel Paulista and Matheus Pereira. Deals are also in place for Pedro Milans and Kaio César, while goalkeeper João Ricardo is expected only in March.
