Corinthians shut down youth accommodation, banking on hotel project

Corinthians has decided to close the "Athlete's House", a lodging that houses about 50 young people and is located near the club's headquarters, in Parque São Jorge, east zone of São Paulo. The space is expected to be closed by the beginning of 2026, according to the new planning of the youth categories' board.

According to initial information from ge.globo that was confirmed by Central do Timão, the initiative came from the youth director, Carlos Roberto Auricchio, with the aim of reducing costs and offering better living conditions to the boys. The proposal received approval from President Osmar Stabile, who communicated the decision to the councilors at a meeting held last Monday.

With the closure of the place, Corinthians estimates an annual saving of at least R$ 1.5 million. Currently, 22 athletes live in the property, which is rented by the club. Instead of maintaining the lodging, the plan is to provide extra financial assistance to young people coming from other cities or states, allowing them to seek their own housing.

The club will continue to offer lunch and dinner at the youth training center, ensuring the athletes' meals. According to the board, the current lodging model generates unnecessary expenses, presents control difficulties, and does not offer ideal conditions for the development of players.

In parallel, Corinthians is looking for partners to build its own hotel, annexed to the youth training center. The project already has engineering and architecture studies ready, but the club faces financial limitations to start the work, which cost is estimated at R$ 20 million.

The most advanced negotiations were with a company in the education sector, interested in investing in exchange for brand exposure, but the talks have cooled in recent days. Another company, from the construction sector, also showed interest, although the conversations are still in the initial phase.

Even with the difficulties, the Timão's board considers that having its own lodging is essential to attract young talents from other regions and strengthen the structure of the youth categories.
