Corinthians Women have received a late boost before the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup, with Paola Garcia, Day Rodríguez and Gisela Robledo granted UK visas to join the squad. They will link up with the team ahead of the semi-final.

The club said in a statement that the players will travel tonight to Europe and are due to arrive on Tuesday morning. It is therefore unlikely they will be in condition to take part in Corinthians’ final training session before the match against Gotham FC.

The delay arose because their nationalities fall under stricter UK entry rules than those for Brazil and Uruguay. Belén Aquino, from Uruguay, has been with the group since day one.

The UK offers two entry routes, the faster Electronic Travel Authorisation and the traditional visa. Colombia and Venezuela are among the countries that do not yet have the digital authorisation.

Corinthians meet Gotham FC at 9.30 on Wednesday at the GTech Community Stadium in London, in the semi-final. Arsenal and AS FAR of Morocco contest the other place in the final.
