The Sky Blues, headed up by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, sit top of the Championship at the season’s halfway stage, and are hoping to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2000.

And they have moved quickly to bolster their front line in the January window, adding Crystal Palace striker Esse, 20, and Spurs winger Min-Hyeok, 19, on loan until the end of the season.

Esse joined Crystal Palace a year ago this month but has struggled to win over Oliver Glasner, making just seven appearances this season.

“I’m delighted to join Coventry City,” he said after signing. “I’m excited to express myself on the pitch and help us fight for our goal.

“I look forward to meeting the boys, the Coventry supporters and I can’t wait to get started.”

Min-Hyeok, meanwhile, began this campaign on loan at Portsmouth, where he impressed with three goals in 16 appearances.

He has now been recalled from that loan and reassigned, and will see out the season in the Midlands.

This will be Min-Hyeok’s third loan spell since joining up with Spurs last January, after he spent the second half of last season with Queens Park Rangers.

Coventry are a familiar opponent, then: the South Korea international has faced his new team-mates twice and been beaten both times.

He said facing the Sky Blues made him want to join up: “When I played against Coventry, I really felt the positive atmosphere within the team, and that made me even more excited about becoming part of this club.

“The Head Coach explained very clearly how he plans to use me and how I could fit into the team, which gave me a lot of confidence that this is the right place for me.

“I want to help the team achieve its goal and to do that, I need to adapt as quickly as possible, show my qualities on the pitch, and prove why I am here.”
