Leeds United are set to miss out on Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as Crystal Palace are close to reaching a verbal agreement to sign him, according to The Athletic.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke wants additional attacking firepower, and Strand Larsen is open to moving to the Elland Road club.

However, the Whites do not plan to offer more than the £40 million bid Wolves have rejected, giving Palace an advantage.

The Eagles are offering £10m more than Leeds, with talks ongoing over an initial £45m and £5m in add-ons.

Wolves have yet to receive an official bid from Palace, but negotiations are advanced regarding the fee and personal terms for the Norwegian striker.

Strand Larsen is expected to replace the wantaway Jean-Philippe Mateta at the Selhurst Park club, and Leeds will have to look elsewhere if they want striking reinforcement before the winter transfer deadline next Monday.

Strand Larsen’s agent Tore Pedersen supports Leeds and also wants him to move to the West Yorkshire club, but it is Palace who have met the demands of Wolves.

Farke could do with another proven goalscorer going forward this term despite the form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 28-year-old has nine goals in 21 league games for the Whites, but his fitness was a constant source of concern while he was at Everton and Leeds need a capable cover and quality competition for him.

They are unlikely to get one in the coming days having all but missed out on Strand Larsen, and Farke will hope his current attacking options will be enough to help the club retain their Premier League status at the end of the season.

Leeds are 16th in the league table after 23 games, six points above the relegation zone.

They need to improve significantly at both ends of the pitch to boost their survival chances and Farke needs his men to step up.
