Santos have begun planning the next transfer window, with Cuca prioritising a taller side to fix aerial issues. According to Diario Do Peixe, size and physical presence top the agenda.
The club believe defending high balls has been a weakness since the start of the year. Recruitment will seek stronger, more aerially dominant players to rebalance the squad.
A tall, attack-minded left-back is a leading target. Gonzalo Escobar is the only experienced option, while Vinicius Lira remains out with a March anterior cruciate ligament injury. Promoted youngster Rafael Gonzaga is viewed as not yet ready for a fixed role.
Midfield plans focus on adding a player who can attack the box. Christian Oliva and Gustavo Henrique are more defensive and share similar traits, and can struggle in physical contests due to their height.
Cuca feels there are enough midfield screeners, but lacks a player with better quality on the ball, forward runs and physical presence. Zé Rafael largely fits that profile, yet a mid-season departure is likely.
Right-back is also flagged as a need. Santos have Igor Vinicius and Mayke, yet want more competition, and there is a chance Mayke leaves in the next window.
The Brazilian window runs from 20 July 2026 to 11 September, after the World Cup. Before the pause, Santos play Coritiba, Grêmio and Vitória in the league, plus San Lorenzo and Deportivo Cuenca at Vila Belmiro in the Copa Sudamericana.
