Liverpool bounced back from four consecutive defeats to seal an emphatic 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt last night.
They came back from a goal down to put five past the Bundesliga side thanks to some terrific performances across the pitch.
Midfielder Curtis Jones was excellent. He stepped in to replace Ryan Gravenberch and delivered a solid showing deep in the engine room.
Jones could have snapped up an assist early on after setting up big-money signing Alexander Isak, but he could not convert.
Jones completed 122/127 passes against Eintracht Frankfurt, the most by a Liverpool player in a Champions League game on record.
He is just one of three midfielders to attempt 125 passes in a Champions League match and keep a 96 percent pass accuracy since the start of last season, after Vitinha and Joshua Kimmich.
Jones, who has an ‘immense skill-set‘, won 4/7 ground and one out of two aerial duels, giving the Reds balance in the engine room.
He played in a midfield pivot alongside Dominick Szoboszlai and helped the Merseyside giants deliver their best performance in weeks.
Many Liverpool fans have been eager to see manager Arne Slot play a midfield pivot for better control and progression. The plan to put Milos Kerkez there has been unsuccessful.
Having Jones and Szoboszlai in the engine room worked a treat, and fans will be hoping for more of the same when they take on Brentford this weekend.
The ease with which opponents have played through Liverpool in recent weeks has also reinforced the need for the club to bring in a quality holding midfielder.
While several players in the squad can do a job in that position, Liverpool need a true specialist.
