Daniel Farke praised Tarik Muharemovic’s potential after the defender impressed on debut in Leeds United’s 1-0 pre-season win against Sunderland in New Jersey.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the £34million signing from Sassuolo made his first appearance on Thursday night, starting in a back three with Joe Rodon and Sebastiaan Bornauw before a late substitution. The 23-year-old stood out across both sides of the ball.
Farke noted the added challenge of a first taste of English football, a new set of teammates and a higher intensity and age profile. He said Muharemovic has roughly one year at top level so far, yet is a promising player full of talent.
The head coach highlighted the centre-back’s calmness, body language and reading of the game, as well as frequent interceptions. He felt the defender’s quality showed throughout and described it as a classy first outing in a complicated match, adding he is delighted to have him.
Fellow summer arrival Harry Wilson also started, having made his first Leeds appearance as a half-time substitute in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Wrexham. While he did not dominate to the same extent, flashes of technique offered a glimpse of what to expect next month.
Farke said Wilson is a good player at this level with many Premier League appearances, coming off an outstanding season with goals and assists. With his UK and Premier League experience, the winger will improve Leeds’ attack.
