Leeds United defeated Sunderland 1-0 in a friendly, new recruit Tarik Muharemovic catching the eye on debut. Leeds Live notes that Torino are eyeing a loan deal.

Lukas Nmecha struck the winner with an unorthodox finish in the ninth minute.

Sunderland created openings, yet Alex Cairns, who played the entire match, preserved a clean sheet. Substitute Daniel James was lively but could not find an end product.

Muharemovic completed 87 minutes. Gabriel Gudmundsson, Harry Wilson and Ao Tanaka made their first pre-season starts. Joe Rodon, potentially the new vice-captain, wore the armband with Ethan Ampadu on the bench.

Lucas Perri was absent through injury. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ilia Gruev and Jaka Bijol did not feature as they continue to nurse their injuries. Academy youngster Callum Mills, 17, earned a second start of the tour and impressed.
