Leeds United are closing on a move for James Trafford that could reshape Daniel Farke’s XI for the Nottingham Forest opener. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands they are close to an agreement worth £40m plus add-ons with Manchester City, which would be a club record and make him the fourth most expensive goalkeeper.

If completed, Trafford would join Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic as new arrivals, with three major gaps arguably addressed and all by top targets. Leeds start their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at Forest on August 22.

In goal, Trafford would come straight in as No.1 if the deal is finalised. He could prove the most important addition of the summer.

At centre-back, Joe Rodon offers continuity through Farke’s spine and valuable recovery pace. Jaka Bijol has settled into a back three and improved week by week, bringing experience of moving from Serie A to the Premier League.

Tarik Muharemovic is expected to take Pascal Struijk’s place, with hopes he can even upgrade the position once he adapts. Supporters will be eager to see the Bosnian’s debut.

On the right, Jayden Bogle stepped up to the Premier League with composure and thrived as a wing-back. He should dovetail neatly with a new right-wing partner.
