FIFA has appointed Dutch official Danny Makkelie to take charge of France v Sweden in the World Cup last 16, kicking off at 23:00 on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, near New York.
He will be assisted by compatriots Hessel Steegstra and Jan De Vries, with American Tori Penso as fourth official.

Makkelie has recent history with both teams.
He refereed Ukraine v France in September 2025 in 2026 World Cup qualifying, which finished 2-0, with goals from Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappé.
Last October he also oversaw Sweden against Kosovo, which ended 0-1.
