Liverpool fans will have to be patient for a while longer with the club still yet to complete a first senior signing of the Arne Slot era.

As things currently stand, it’s highly unlikely that Leny Yoro will be the man to change matters in that regard.

David Ornstein at The Athletic now reports that the Reds ‘backed off’ after learning about the Frenchman’s preference for a move to Real Madrid this summer.

That hasn’t deterred Premier League rivals Manchester United. The Red Devils continue to prod and poke for an opening, ‘so long as the door is ajar’, to try and land one of the most exciting defensive talents in Europe.

Liverpool prioritising more realistic opportunities?

It would certainly seem that our recruitment team deem our chances of beating Real Madrid to Leny Yoro are somewhat slim.

That said, we’d like to think we’d at least cover our bases and match United’s bid to keep our foot in the door, whilst it remains even slightly ajar.

For the time being, however, it appears that we’re content with allowing Arne Slot to evaluate his existing options before actively pursuing alternative targets.

We’re completely on board with that process given the depth of talent available in the current squad.

After all, it’s a few tweaks that may be needed here and there rather than a complete overhaul.
