Later today, Real Madrid lock horns with Deportivo Alaves in a game that could be pivotal from the point of view of the league standings.

Barcelona are already seven points clear of Real Madrid after their win last night, and only a win for the men in white can help them cut that deficit back to four and stay competitive.

However, that will be complicated when one considers the long list of injuries and suspensions that Real Madrid are dealing with and thus means that they will have to be extra careful against Alaves on Sunday.

Alaves player speaks on Real Madrid

Speaking to the media ahead of his team’s clash against Real Madrid later today, Deportivo Alaves midfielder Denis Suarez was reminded of the offer he had from Real Madrid when he was in his early teens.

“It was during my second year in the youth category, when I was about to move up to the first year of the junior level. There was interest, but I intended to make it to Celta’s first team,” he began.

“I am a big Celta supporter. In addition, I was very comfortable at home, with my family and the people close to me,” he added on his decision.

Clearly having no regrets about rejecting Real Madrid’s offer in the hope of eventually returning to Celta Vigo, Suarez spoke on how such decisions are complicated at such a young age.

“I am one of those who believe that if things are meant to happen, they will end up happening anyway.”

“I don’t think it is necessary for a child of 12, 13, or 14 years old to have to leave home to go to another city without their parents, especially when you have the possibility of doing so in your own home,” he added.

The Deportivo Alaves star then spoke on how playing for Celta Vigo was always an option for him and how he never doubted his decision.

“I understand that if that possibility does not exist, you might get excited, or your parents might encourage you, but in my case, that was not so.”

“Even so, it is a complicated decision; in the end, it is still an important train that passes only once,” he added.

While Suarez did indeed leave his home in the future to train with Manchester City and Barcelona, he admitted that it was the best decision for all parties involved at the time to reject Real Madrid.

“It was a decision we made between my parents and me. They told me there was interest from Real Madrid when I was in the youth team in my second year, and I told them I loved Celta.”

“I was an innocent child and my dream was to play for Celta. It was a quick and simple conversation,” he added.

Finally, he was asked about the upcoming game against Real Madrid and whether it was better to play a Real Madrid in form or a team wounded from defeats and desperate for a win.

“I don’t know. It’s an unpredictable team; you don’t know from which side they’ll come at you. You know you have to do things very well, and that they can’t have a big day, so you can beat them.”

“We concede few goals, and we have to keep it that way. We struggle to score goals because we get very tight results, but we have to put on a big performance,” he added.
