Julen Agirrezabala’s loan at Valencia failed to take off. Hampered by injuries and form, the goalkeeper returns to Athletic without increasing his value and with the 12 million purchase clause left unused. His next step now points away from San Mamés.
Athletic plan to keep Unai Simón as number one and Álex Padilla as back-up, with Agirrezabala back in the shop window as he seeks regular football. AS reports that a buy-back clause could be used to lower any fee in a potential sale.
The most interested club is Deportivo de La Coruña, newly promoted to Primera División and aiming to reinforce their goal. They would prefer a permanent transfer at figures well below the 12 million once available to Valencia, although any move will depend on Athletic’s terms.
Racing de Santander have also set their sights on the Basque keeper as they return to the top flight.
Basque media say Real Sociedad, Girona, Celta, Sevilla and Oviedo have asked about his situation.
