When the starting lineups were announced for Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Nottingham Forest at Wembley on Sunday there were several surprises. Rico Lewis lined up in midfield. The young England international put in a stellar display as he scored City’s opener. Lewis played well in midfield in a role that best suits his game. Another surprise was the decision to start Jack Grealish. Grealish had his moments in the game. He played his role for his team at Wembley. But despite the surprise start it still seems that Grealish is destined to leave Manchester City this summer.
Jack Grealish played predominantly in midfield on Sunday. He did help Pep Guardiola’s side maintain control of the first half of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final. The England international drifted out of the game in the second half but he did play an important role in his team’s win. It wasn’t a stand-out display from Grealish, but he did his job as Manchester City clinched their spot in this season’s FA Cup final.
But even though Grealish started at Wembley it does feel that a summer departure from Manchester City beckons for the England international. It’s hard to see where Jack Grealish fits into City’s squad for next season. A report from Ahad Shaukat for CaughtOffside indicates that Manchester City could sell Grealish for between €45-50 million this summer. Furthermore, Shaukat adds that Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest all have an interest in signing Grealish this summer.
Jack Grealish can still play a role for Manchester City for the remainder of this season. But looking ahead to City’s rebuild it does seem that he will be one player who is likely to leave the club. It does seem that would be for the best for him and for Manchester City and it appears that there will be no shortage of suitors for his signature this summer.
