Lazio are preparing to replace Alessio Romagnoli, who is close to joining Al-Sadd. Talks collapsed at the eleventh hour in January, but the club have reportedly agreed a sale worth around €3 million.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Diego Coppola is on their shortlist. The 22-year-old, a Hellas Verona product sold to Brighton last summer, struggled for minutes in the Premier League before earning a starting role on loan at Paris FC in the second half of the season.
Coppola is due to rejoin the Seagulls this summer, though the report says the centre-back is keen on a return to Italy. Incoming Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso previously called him up for Italy’s World Cup play-offs in March, but left him unused.
The shortlist also includes Lautaro Rivero. The 22-year-old Argentine has become a defensive mainstay at River Plate, is under contract until December 2029, and is a left-footed centre-back viewed as a natural successor to Romagnoli.
Barcelona academy defender Sergi Dominguez, heavily linked in recent weeks, has been earmarked to replace Mario Gila if he departs this summer.
