Uli Hoeneß has once again lashed out at player consultants in professional soccer – and made it clear that FC Bayern intends to take tougher action against excessive commissions in future
The honorary president of the record champions has been one of the biggest critics of the consultancy industry for years. Now the 74-year-old has reaffirmed his stance – and at the same time held out the prospect of concrete measures
Speaking at an event, Hoeneß made it clear: „If a player goes abroad today or comes from abroad, he needs a consultant. There are a lot of serious consultants, and there are a lot of cut-throats.“
Hoeneß is increasingly annoyed by the developments of recent years in particular. The rising sums that advisors receive in the course of transfers are a central point of criticism for him. „Sometimes ten million is paid for three lunches, that can’t be right,“ rumbled the Bayern patron
The issue is already the subject of intense internal debate at Säbener Straße, with Hoeneß announcing that the club intends to pursue a clearer line in future: „In future, we will try to develop a concept that we will no longer put up with this.“
Although the long-serving Bayern manager left specific details open, the direction is clear: FC Bayern no longer wants to be driven into negotiations at any price

The statements are part of a long series of criticism by Hoeneß of the world of consultants, who has repeatedly pointed out in the past that agents have gained too much influence in modern soccer
Most recently, he emphasized: „We will increasingly say ’no‘ and not go along with this madness.“
The fact that this stance is also causing internal discussions can be seen in past contract negotiations, such as those surrounding Dayot Upamecano, where demands from consultants are also said to have played a role
Hoeneß thus remains true to his line: for him, it is clear that FC Bayern must put economic reason above short-term compromises. The message is unmistakable – and is aimed directly at the powerful players in the background of the transfer business.
