Sean Dyche underlined the importance of his squad as Nottingham Forest manage a heavy injury list after a 2-1 Europa League win at Utrecht.
On Thursday night Douglas Luiz and Oleksandr Zinchenko returned from long layoffs, with Murillo starting after hamstring trouble and illness. Dilane Bakwa was among the substitutes. According to Nottingham Post, Dyche’s focus is on having everyone ready when called.
Luiz had trained for only two days, and while Dyche usually avoids that scenario, the midfielder told him he felt fine and wanted to play. Zinchenko completed 90 minutes, which was not planned given limited opportunities to change. Murillo’s minutes were handled carefully.
Dyche admitted selection and game-time calls were difficult but felt the decisions worked on the night. He highlighted key individual displays and moments, picking out Nicolas Dominguez, and said Forest deserved the victory.
The injury list still includes Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi, plus Ola Aina, while Ryan Yates now faces a spell out. Goalkeeper Matz Sels did not travel to the Netherlands, and it is hoped he will be fit to face Tottenham on Sunday.
He added that injuries have affected the club both before and during his tenure. With fixtures piling up, he stressed a squad mentality, praised the players’ work and said they will need to maintain that approach.
