Atalanta midfield general Ederson is expected to be on the move this summer.

There have been hints to suggest why the Samba star may finally be prised away from the New Balance Arena.

One of them that should have turned heads is the combative South American’s asking price.

A tempting opportunity

Manchester United have long admired Ederson, yet the €60–70 million (£52–61m) valuation placed by the Bergamo outfit proved a stumbling block.

Now, however, reports relayed by The Peoples Person suggest Atalanta are willing to negotiate at around €30 million (£26m), a massive discount.

For a long-term target, United should have been all over this deal, striking quickly for the 26‑year‑old who could prove a brilliant replacement for Casemiro.

Atletico pressing hard

Instead, it is Atletico Madrid making the strongest push.

“Atletico Madrid have verbally agreed personal terms with Ederson, as the Atalanta midfielder is a top target. No agreement yet between clubs as talks continue around a €35–40m fee, but negotiations are ongoing. Ederson is under contract until June 2027.”

This revelation ought to set alarm bells ringing at Old Trafford. For Ineos to allow Ederson to slip to the Wanda Metropolitano would be nothing short of criminal.

United are keen to revamp their midfield with quality additions, and this is precisely the type of opportunity they cannot afford to ignore. The Brazilian offers everything United need: tireless energy, fierce commitment, duel-winning ability, tactical versatility, agility under pressure, and progressive passing.

Time to hijack

With no club-to-club agreement in place, United still have the chance to hijack the deal and beat Atletico to Ederson’s signature. Personal terms are unlikely to pose an issue.

Given United’s need for two or three midfield reinforcements, with Manuel Ugarte tipped to join Casemiro through the exit door, snapping up Ederson makes perfect sense.
