The Saints took a point away from their promotion rivals as Brazil scored her first of the season.

Ellie Brazil praises determined Saints

There was no lack of drama between Southampton and Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon and the neutrals certainly weren’t left disappointed following a 4-4 draw.

Southampton’s summer signing Ellie Brazil was able to grab her first goal for the club in the draw.

The 26-year-old praised her teammates after the game for their resilience during what was a challenging fixture.

“When you score four goals it’s sad not to take all three points, but you can’t fault the desire. You can’t fault the work ethic or the team.” Brazil said.

“It is still a massive point for us, they [Crystal Palace] just came down from the WSL and they are only going to get better with each game.

“It’s lovely for us to know that when we are under the cosh we can fight back and get something from the game.”

Crystal Palace and Southampton are both strong promotion contenders according to UK betting sites and a point for the Saints away from home already looks like a good result.

Southampton can’t stop scoring goals

Scoring four in the league is something Southampton hadn’t done in the league since November 2024 prior to this season.

However in their first two WSL2 games the Saints have already achieved that feat twice.

“We are creating and we will fight for each other. Hopefully this year is going to be really exciting for us, we’re building each week.” Brazil continued.

“A goal is a lovely way to start my season off but it doesn’t matter if my name is on that scoresheet it isn’t a big deal to me as long as we come out of the game with at least a point or even all three.”

Brazil already has one goal and two assists in her first two games for Southampton and she seems to have settled in to life on the South coast fast.

With four points from their first two games, Southampton will be brimming with confidence going into their next game against Bristol City.
