Coach Emerse Faé has named the Ivory Coast squad for this year’s World Cup.
The standout selections include Manchester United's Amad Diallo, along with France-born striker Ange-Yoan Bonny, who plays for Inter Milan and has chosen to represent the Ivory Coast in order to feature at the tournament.
Bonny was born in Aubervilliers, in northern Paris, and is the son of an Ivorian father. He initially represented France at youth level but later decided that switching allegiance to Côte d’Ivoire would give him a better chance of breaking into senior international football, a move that has now paid off.
Côte d’Ivoire have been drawn in Group E alongside Ecuador, Curaçao and Germany. Their World Cup campaign begins on 14 June with a fixture against Ecuador in Philadelphia.
