Enzo Maresca is being encouraged to rotate by Chelsea’s hierarchy as part of a season long strategy according to reports.
Chelsea have made 85 changes to their starting line-up this season, more than any other Premier League club as the Blues try to combat the effect of the Club World Cup.
Maresca has made a minimum of seven changes in each of the last five matches, and the Blues have struggled for consistency, with the latest example Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Qarabag.
Some of the changes have been forced upon Maresca with Chelsea picking up a number of red cards early in the season.
There have also been injuries to contend with, most notably Cole Palmer and Liam Delap and the Blues potentially face a 65 game campaign.

The amount of rotation has certainly been a source of frustration, especially at centre back, with the defensive pairing virtually changing every game.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs has reported the changes are actually encouraged by Chelsea as he provided an update on the situation.
He took to X.com and said:
“Enzo Maresca is empowered by Chelsea’s ownership and sporting directors to rotate.
“Changes encouraged rather than questioned as part of a season-long plan to compete on four fronts.”
Maresca was questioned about his rotation after the Qarabag draw, but he launched a firm defence of the changes he made.
“I think I tried to explain already many times, the intention was to rest Moises, Enzo, Malo and more players,” he said.

“They are not able to play every three days. The Club World Cup affected a lot. We tried to rotate. When we win, nobody mentions that but when we don’t, everyone is focused on that.
Next up is a game against Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Saturday where there will likely once again be a host of changes to the team.
