Estadio de la Cerámica will stage Spain’s meeting with Serbia on 27 March, the national team’s fourth visit to Vila-real, where they remain unbeaten.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the RFEF offered Villarreal the game and accepted the club’s formal proposal. Kick-off is 21.00, live on La 1.
Spain first played at El Madrigal on 5 June 1999, beating San Marino 9-0 in Euro 2000 qualifying under José Antonio Camacho. Fernando Hierro, Raúl and Gaizka Mendieta scored, Joseba Etxeberria struck twice, Luis Enrique hit a hat-trick, and Gennari added an own goal.
The second visit came on 19 November 2008, when Vicente del Bosque’s side beat Chile 3-0 in a friendly. David Villa, Fernando Torres and Santi Cazorla, then starring for Villarreal, found the net.
Julen Lopetegui led Spain in their most recent match there, a 1-1 draw with Switzerland on 3 June 2018, with Álvaro Odriozola scoring for the hosts.
Castelló’s Castalia has also staged Spain twice, hosting friendlies against Luxembourg, a 2-0 win in 1987, and Portugal, a 1-1 draw in 1991.
