David Moyes takes his Everton side to Liverpool on Saturday, facing one of the toughest challenges in English football.
The Toffees arrive at Anfield in good defensive form, having steadied their season after an opening-day loss. However, they must overcome a dreadful historical record at this ground, where they have won just once since September 1999.
The fixture also presents a significant personal challenge for the manager. David Moyes has famously never won a Premier League match at Anfield in 20 attempts as a manager, a joint league record. Breaking this personal hoodoo, as well as the club’s, would represent a massive achievement and a real statement of intent for Everton’s season.
David Moyes is expected to be without defenders Jarrad Branthwaite and Vitaliy Mykolenko for the short trip to Anfield. Consequently, James Garner will likely continue in a makeshift left-back role. The defence has been a strong point for the Toffees this season, keeping four clean sheets in five games.
The creative responsibility will fall on the in-form wingers Jack Grealish, the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August, and Iliman Ndiaye. Meanwhile, Moyes faces a key decision up front over whether to stick with Beto or recall Thierno Barry.
Everton predicted XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Garner; Gueye, Iroegbunam; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Beto
The Premier League fixture will be played at Anfield on Saturday, 20 September 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, with coverage starting at 12:00 pm BST.
