A former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is giving real consideration to pulling the curtain on his career at just 31 years of age.

That’s according to L’Équipe, who point towards Samuel Umtiti as the player in question.

World Cup winner Umtiti of course spent seven years on the books of the aforementioned Barcelona, between 2016 and 2023.

The stopper’s time in Catalunya’s capital, however, was blighted by injury problems, restricting him to a total of less than 100 La Liga appearances.

Umtiti most recently lined out for Ligue 1 outfit Lille, but failed to manage a single appearance last season.

In turn, his contract was not renewed, with the Frenchman now available as a free agent.

And according to L’Équipe, should Umtiti not be able to find a new club within the next week, he is likely to call time on his playing days:

‘Free and considering himself recovered from his left knee injury, 2018 world champion Samuel Umtiti has given himself until September 10 to find a new club. Or put an end to his career once and for all, at the age of 31.’
