Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has returned to form following an unconvincing start to the new Serie A campaign.

According to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by FCInterNews, the ex-Bayern Munich stopper has shaken off early criticism to regain a protagonist role.

Yann Sommer was the architect of Inter’s nerve-shredding home win against newly promoted Venezia last Sunday.

Simone Inzaghi’s side sneaked into the win column as Lautaro Martinez scored a second-half winner in a narrow 1-0 triumph.

However, it wasn’t a pleasant night for the Nerazzurri faithful.

Indeed, Inter had to navigate several tense moments to take three points against below-par opposition.

They had Sommer to thank for seeing off Eusebio Di Francesco’s team.

The scenario could’ve been different had it not been for his outstanding saves in both halves.

Yann Sommer Returns to Top Form for Inter Milan

Sommer was one of Inter’s standout performers in 2023/24.

He was Serie A’s best goalkeeper, with the Nerazzurri only conceded 22 goals en route to their 20th Scudetto.

But he capitulated 13 times in the first nine rounds this term.

Consecutive clean sheets against Empoli and Venezia last week have helped boost his confidence.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper made two stunning saves against the Venice outfit to deny Gaetano Oristanio and Joel Pohjanpalo.

His fabulous intervention to thwart the former may have been the save of the week in Serie A.

More importantly, it was a sign of Sommer’s renewed confidence.

Indeed, he has registered a shutout in four of his last five appearances across all competitions.

Furthermore, he has yet to concede a goal in the UEFA Champions League this term.

Arsenal’s upcoming visit to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will put that record to the test.

Inter held the Gunners’ fierce Premier League rivals, Manchester City, at bay on matchday one.

Hopefully, they can repeat that performance on Wednesday.
