Former Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini admits that he spent some of the best moments of his life at San Siro, but a partial demolition of the stadium is ‘inevitable.’

Milan and Inter have submitted an offer to buy the Stadio Meazza and its surroundings and hope to reach an agreement with the Milan Municipality by the summer.

Reports on Tuesday suggested that part of the Meazza would be demolished to make room for a new shared stadium in the same area.

“They’ll inevitably move towards a new stadium, to keep up with what’s happening around the world and mainly help the clubs increase their revenues,” Ambrosini, a former Milan and Italy midfielder, told ANSA (via Milannews).

“I’ve spent some of the best moments of my life at San Siro. It’s a huge shame, but I think [partial demolition] is inevitable.”

Ambrosini played for Milan from 1998 to 2013. During his time on the black and red side of San Siro, he won several trophies, including four Serie A titles and the Champions League twice.
