Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has explained why Leeds United’s equaliser at Stamford Bridge was correctly allowed despite Chelsea protests over a possible Jayden Bogle handball.

Leeds came from two down to draw 2-2 on Tuesday, with second-half goals from Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor after Bogle first won a penalty then helped create the chaos for the leveller. The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea made contact with PGMOL about the decision, describing the exchange as civil and respectful and noting head coach Rosenior’s unclear grasp of the rule post-match.

Replays showed the ball flicked off Bogle’s thigh and onto his elbow, with referee Rob Jones and VAR judging the touch accidental. Under Premier League laws, accidental handball is only penalised if it leads directly to a goal for the player involved. Bogle neither scored nor directly assisted.

“It strikes him, there’s no doubt about that. Is it deliberate? No, I don't think so,” he told Sky Sports’ Ref Watch.

“Does it lead directly to a goal for him? Definitely no because if you watch the sequence, three Chelsea players touch the ball in between. It eventually goes in way after that incident so it doesn’t meet the criteria.”
