Rangers are reportedly interested in signing the defender.

Leicester City defender Conor Coady has been linked with Russell Martin's Rangers this summer.

The Foxes are in a very worrying situation where they may be hit with a hefty points deduction - potentially more than a dozen - for breaches of financial rules. Not only could their poor fiscal situation hurt their chances of going back up to the Premier League next season by way of steepening the mountain that they have to climb, but it could hurt their ability to buy players too.

According to Football Insider, City may need to sell some of their players in order to acquire new ones this summer. Coady, 32, is one of the players that is reportedly being targeted. Rangers have inquired about a move for him and Leicester are said to be open to such a deal, as per the online outlet.

Leicester told to bat off Rangers interest in Conor Coady

Bringing in the former Everton and Wolves defender would be a good move by Rangers, according to Lee Hendrie. Their new boss has reportedly been given a £20 million transfer kitty by the club's equally new owners, 49ers Enterprises. For Leicester, though, Hendrie believes that they should look to hold onto Coady.

He exclusively told Football League World: "I could see him at Ibrox, for sure. I think that he could certainly step in and do a job at Rangers. There's no doubt about that. He still offers a lot in the line of experience.

"He has been limited on game time, but I think, particularly with Leicester being in the Championship, he'd be one you look at and think that he's got a bit more mileage in him to go on and kick on in the Championship.

"If you're linked with Rangers, I'm sure that would certainly give him something to think about. I'd be looking at it from a Leicester point of view, thinking that he'd be one that I want to keep hold of, given some of the players that they have at the club."

Conor Coady sale option shouldn't be totally disregarded by Leicester

When you look at the composition of Leicester's squad, losing a defender like Coady wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. They have a few other options that they could turn to without having to bring any new centre-backs in.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy's squad does need reassembling this summer, as much as he may not be there to see the results of it, and Coady, whose contract expires in a year's time, is someone that they might be able to make a bit of money from. Taking the cash now before they run the risk of him leaving as a free agent wouldn't be all that bad if he's not part of the club's plans going forward.
