There were murmurs about the current Sky Blues boss moving north of the border and joining the Scottish giants, who have been without a manager since they relieved former Swansea City and Southampton boss Russell Martin after just 17 games in charge of the club.

However, fresh reports state that Lampard isn't interested in the role, and with his current side atop the Championship and dominating inside the opening nine games of the season, not many can blame him.

Especially not Goodman, who believes that the former Chelsea legend and England international knows that his Coventry side is destined for the Premier League with him in charge.

With Coventry currently unbeaten through the opening nine games of the Championship campaign, scoring a staggering 27 goals along the way, there's a high potential that this Sky Blues team could become one of the best the second tier has seen.

Given the transformation of the club in just under a year under Lampard, all signs point to a return to the top flight for the first time since the 2000/01 campaign, something which Don Goodman believes may happen, too.

"I suspect that Frank Lampard will realise that he could really be on to something at Coventry in terms of getting the football club back into the Premier League after a long time in the doldrums," he said in an exclusive interview with Football League World.

"I think he likes the squad that he's got, I think he likes their personalities, I think he likes their togetherness and their ability.

"Having been there almost a year and made such vast progress, I would absolutely understand why any job, probably, unless it was a top job, would not be something that would take him away from Coventry at this moment in time."

The 47-year-old may have been accused of walking away from his first managerial job at Derby County too soon to take over at Chelsea in 2019, but that could be excused, as Lampard was a legend on the pitch at Stamford Bridge, and it was seen as a dream move at the time.

The Coventry boss clearly doesn't feel that way towards Rangers, and his decision to stay isn't one which surprises many.

After taking the Sky Blues from 17th and two points above the relegation zone, upon his arrival in late November, to the brink of the play-off final in half a year, Lampard has clearly proven that he is still a top-flight level manager after some poor stints at Chelsea and Everton.

However, he seems to see that top-flight future at the CBS Arena, and looks likely to want to be the guy who steers that ship to its destination, which is a huge plus for the Coventry fans.

The Sky Blues have been treated to some truly exciting attacking football so far this season. Lampard's side have been far and away the best team through the opening stages of the Championship campaign and, injury depending, they could find themselves running away with the second tier title come May.

Then, the 47-year-old will be able to have another crack at the Premier League. However, this time it'll be with a squad he's built and moulded from the off, and one that'll be desperate to make their return permanent.
