Don Goodman has told FLW his verdict on Simon Jordan's scrapped plans to buy Sheffield Wednesday

Don Goodman believes that it is a shame for Sheffield Wednesday that Simon Jordan’s proposal to take over the club won’t be moving forward.

The former Crystal Palace owner confirmed in late November that he had organised a consortium that provided the £50 million proof of funds necessary to move forward in the bidding process for the Championship side.

However, he also revealed that the interest won’t be converted into an official offer, and that he will not be involved in the bidding process, with Sheffield-born businessman Ryan Howsam confirming he was also involved.

Jordan purchased Crystal Palace in 2000, but his time with his boyhood club ultimately came to an end in 2010 after financial difficulty led to the Eagles going into administration.

He has not made a return to football ownership in the years since, and works as a pundit on the radio, offering insight into the business side of the sport.

Don Goodman makes Simon Jordan ownership claim

Goodman believes that Sheffield Wednesday could have benefitted from Jordan taking over the club due to his experience in football ownership, and the connections he already has within the game.

He claimed that the 58-year-old would make a good owner for any team if he were to make a return to the sport, and that it’s a shame he won’t be making that return at Hillsborough with the Owls.

“I’m kind of glad he hasn’t gone back into football because I enjoy listening to him on the radio, Simon Jordan,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“But joking aside, he talks a lot of sense, he’s got that football ownership background, he’s well connected and I’d be a little bit disappointed if I was a Sheffield Wednesday fan that he hasn’t seen enough in the potential of the football club to go beyond and into the next phase and actually end up buying it.

“Obviously, it’s a club of huge potential, but behind the scenes there’s something that’s stopped Simon Jordan, and that’s a shame, really.

“Maybe another opportunity at another club will come to fruition.

“But, no, I think he’d make a good owner if he were to get back involved.”

Sheffield Wednesday are seeking a new owner after Dejphon Chansiri’s financial mismanagement led to the club going into administration.

A number of names have been linked with a possible takeover, with no preferred bidder yet named, with the 5 December deadline now expected to be extended.

Mike Ashley and John McEvoy have been mentioned as potential buyers, with the Owls rooted to the bottom of the Championship table.

Sheffield Wednesday ownership situation will be improved whoever takes over

Chansiri was such a detrimental figure for Sheffield Wednesday that supporters will just be glad to see the back of him.

The standard has been lowered so much by the Thai businessman, that whoever takes over will have a relatively easy time keeping the fans onside, at least initially.

But Jordan is a divisive figure from his work in the media, and his background in football ownership did end much the same way as Chansiri’s.

Although he would’ve been part of a consortium, and thus his role in managing the finances would’ve been reduced, that could’ve still put supporters off bringing him into the club.
