Liam Rosenior’s reign at Chelsea was over almost before it began – players simply didn’t respect him and never took to his ideas.

The wreckage of Liam Rosenior’s reign as Chelsea boss is being picked over now, and on the London is Blue podcast today they look at why the whole thing was so hopeless once the players lost faith in their manager.

“There’s footage on the field of players not listening to him, not listening to assistant managers. He began to lose authority as he began to try to implement more of his ideas,” presenter Nick Verlaney pointed out.

Rosenior reign untenable from early

The tactical ideas that Rosenior tried to put across also ended up being a disaster, and creating more doubts about him:

“His extreme man to man marking style, and even having less possession and what that did to the team’s fitness – which has never been there at all this season. That’s why we’ve been outrun in every single Premier League game that we’ve been a part of.”

Ultimately, the rifts in the dressing room were unrecoverable:

“It’s been said that the Spanish speakers didn’t like him, the English speakers did. But if part of the squad that you’re managing doesn’t respect you, doesn’t do what you want them to do, openly talks negatively about you in the press… this situation was untenable.”

It’s the truth, and it was obvious for a while.

Manchester City are said to be interested in Enzo Fernandez, whose motivation to leave Chelsea may be diminished now he’s managed to get rid of Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea have worked out the top candidates to replace Rosenior – but they will struggle to sign any of them.
