With Konate’s future so uncertain, Liverpool have been continuously linked with defensive reinforcements this season.
In January a deal for Lutsharel Geertruida was close but was never finalised and an agreement to bring Jeremy Jacquet to Anfield for £60 million in the summer was announced.
One of the players heavily linked with a Merseyside move was Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, but the German now looks likely to sign a new deal with BVB.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that an agreement was close between Schlotterbeck and Dortmund on a new deal that would stretch to 2031.
Romano confirmed that Liverpool had never sent an official proposal for the 26-year-old, partly due to the deal for Jacquet being agreed in the winter window.
The fact that there was no official approach from Liverpool could indicate that the Reds are confident they will be able to secure Konate’s long-term future.
Giovanni Leoni, who joined Liverpool last summer, has spent most of the season unavailable after picking up an injury on his debut, but the fact Liverpool are content to only add one central defender to the ranks is a good sign for the Italian too.
Leoni was recently pictured back training on grass again and it seems likely that the 19-year-old will be able to feature in Liverpool’s preseason and should be ready to fight for a place next campaign.
