It had been in the pipeline for weeks. Frenkie de Jong has renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until 2029. The Dutch midfielder will earn between 9 and 10 million euros per season, and his release clause has been raised from 400 to 500 million euros.

Having become indispensable again under Flick, the former Ajax player has featured in 6 La Liga matches this season, as well as 2 Champions League fixtures. "FC Barcelona is pleased to announce the contract extension of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong with the club. The player is now tied to F.C. Barcelona until 2029.", reads the statement from the Catalan club.
