FC Porto set to return with new offer for Arsenal defender

Jakub Kiwior continues to be linked with a move away from Arsenal, and according to the latest reports, he could be on his way to the Portuguese top flight before the end of the transfer window.

With just a week remaining, Andrea Berta and the recruitment team will be pleased with their business so far, particularly the number of quality additions made to the squad. However, the club has struggled to move several fringe players on, with high wages making sales difficult. As a result, Arsenal’s net spend is close to £250 million this summer.

Porto remain interested in Kiwior

Arsenal could still land a tidy fee for Kiwior if they agree to sell. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that FC Porto are in active talks to bring the Poland international to Portugal and are preparing to submit a fresh bid this week. The Gunners rejected their initial offer in July, but Porto may now be ready to meet their demands.

Arsenal’s asking price remains unknown, but with Kiwior signed for just €20 million in 2023, the club stand to make a profit. Romano also revealed that Arsenal could consider signing another defender if both Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko were to leave before the deadline, which could push their total number of summer signings to eight.

Potential replacement lined up

In that scenario, Arsenal may press ahead with their interest in Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet. The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with the Gunners in recent weeks, though reports suggest any move will depend on outgoings.

While Arsenal are not short of defensive options, the potential departures of Kiwior and Zinchenko could force Andrea Berta and his team back into the market.
