Fernandes confirms he was on verge of joining club where he’d have won ‘many trophies’ in 2024 – there’s three options

Bruno Fernandes has confirmed he was close to joining an unnamed club last year, one that he’d have gone on to win ‘many trophies’ with in his maiden season.

Manchester United’s skipper has shed some light on what played out between himself and the club’s hierarchy over the last two summers, the latter of which saw him become the subject of a mega-money bid from Al-Hilal.

The Saudi Pro League outfit tested United’s resolve by offering £100 million for their midfield talisman, while also pledging to treble Fernandes’ wages at Old Trafford.

United were said to be open to facilitating the departure of arguably their most influential player of the last five years, but he eventually declined the proposal.

“From the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘If you leave, it’s not so bad for us.’ It hurts me a bit. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player who has nothing to criticise,” revealed Fernandes in his conversation with Canal 11.

“I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all. Then, you see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much. That makes you sad.”

A year prior, the Portuguese’s future was also one of the major talking points of the summer window before the 2024/2025 campaign.

He had been approached by a handful of suitors, all of whom were keen on prising him from Old Trafford.

“The issue of loyalty isn’t viewed the same way it used to be. I could have left in the last transfer window. I would have earned much more money. I was going to leave a season ago – I won’t say where – but I would have won many trophies that season,” said Fernandes.

As per Samuel Luckhurst, the three clubs that made moves for Fernandes in 2024 were Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Milan.

However, he decided to commit his long-term future to United by signing a three-year bumper deal, keeping him tied to the Reds until 2027.

Fernandes has since, unsurprisingly, continued to pull the strings for United, even amidst such tumultuous times in M16.

He ended 2024/2025 with 19 goals and 19 assists to his name in all competitions, and has already recorded five goals and seven assists in 16 Premier League matches this season.
