Manchester City’s first-team squad has seen a total of five nominations for the latest iteration of FIFA’s The Best awards.
Confirmation of nominations across various awards comes just weeks after the Ballon d’Or ceremony took place in the French capital of Paris, with Manchester City recognised on the night through Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian international goalkeeper claimed the Yashin Trophy for the second time in his professional playing career, confirming his status as the world’s best men’s goalkeeper shortly after joining Manchester City from Paris Saint-Germain.
There has been an expectation that City would struggle for individual accolades this Autumn, off the back of a 2024/25 season that saw the club fail to claim any major silverware for the first time since 2017.
Having lost out to Liverpool in the Premier League off the back of four top-flight successes in a row, City also crashed out of the UEFA Champions League before the last-16 stage, reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, and lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace.
Now, while Manchester City are represented in this year’s awards, Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad does not have a single nominee for ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Player’ of 2025 following their difficult last campaign.
The Catalan tactician has also not been recognised among the best managers for the last calendar year, with Guardiola absent from the list of nominations for ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Coach’ of the year.
City are however represented in the nominations for ‘The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper’, as Gianluigi Donnarumma looks to secure yet another leading shot-stopper prize, largely following his performances with Paris Saint-Germain last campaign.
Manchester City finally have four nominations for ‘The Best FIFA Men’s 11, 2025’ as Donnarumma is accompanied by Portuguese duo Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, alongside striking sensation Erling Haaland.
The Etihad Stadium club will be hoping for an immediate return to top-level challenging for the very biggest honours this season, and have certainly got their new campaign off to an encouraging start.
Putting a strong run of results together in the Premier League, City find themselves among the division’s top-four clubs, and also remain in line for automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions League’s last-16 stage.
There is also a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for Manchester City as they welcome Brentford to the Etihad stadium in mid-December, while the FA Cup returns to the agenda shortly after the turn of the year.
