Filipe Luís praised academy product Evertton Araújo after Flamengo thrashed Sampaio Corrêa 7-1 in the sixth round of the Campeonato Carioca on Saturday.

With Jorginho sidelined by a left thigh muscle injury, Araújo started and impressed. He completed 70 of 74 passes, made seven recoveries and four interceptions, drawing approval from supporters. According to Coluna Do Fla, West Ham have been tracking the midfielder via scouting and value him at around 12 million euros, roughly R$ 74 million.

Filipe Luís said he had always believed in Araújo, noting the youngster had faced heavy criticism but never stopped working, and that football repays perseverance. He added that fans who once questioned his selection are now unhappy when he is left out.

Flamengo have set a significantly higher price for Araújo and do not intend to negotiate at this stage, despite the interest from abroad.

With Araújo available, Flamengo visit Vitória on Tuesday 10 at 21:30 Brasília time at the Barradão, in the third round of the Brasileirão.
