Lucas Paquetá shone as Flamengo thrashed Sampaio Corrêa 7-1 in the sixth round of the Carioca, with Filipe Luís urging greater calm from his midfielder. According to Coluna Do Fla, the coach wants him to settle emotionally and rediscover his feel for the ball.
Paquetá started for the second game in a row and controlled the midfield. He played 69 minutes, registered two efforts on goal and struck the post once. He completed 58 of 65 passes, one pass initiating the move that ended with Samuel Lino teeing up Pedro for the second goal, before departing to warm applause for Cebolinha at the Maracanã.
Filipe Luís said Paquetá can operate across midfield, praised his quality and noted he is building rhythm and understanding with team-mates, but is carrying a heavy emotional load. Restoring confidence on the ball, he added, was a priority.
He highlighted how Brazilian pitches differ from those in the league Paquetá has just left, which he described as having the best grass in the world. The coach felt adapting to the surface is a significant step in the player’s recovery of positive sensations in possession.
He wants Paquetá to normalise playing for his boyhood club, saying the desire to impress can make him play too fast. He said the playmaker is a top player and will help Flamengo a lot.
Flamengo face Vitória on Tuesday 10 at 21:30 Brasília time at the Barradão, in the third round of the Brasileirão.
