With Flamengo’s schedule paused for the FIFA window, the club showcased its internationals on Saturday, yet Gonzalo Plata was absent from the post, prompting fan scrutiny, according to Coluna Do Fla.
On X, images featured Léo Pereira, Arrascaeta, Varela and Carrascal in action. Plata had played, setting up Ecuador’s 1-1 draw with Morocco.
Supporters quickly noticed, replying to the post to ask where Plata was, with others responding sarcastically about the omission.
Plata’s future at Flamengo is uncertain. He has struggled to earn a run under Leonardo Jardim, and off-field issues have displeased the board and fans. He has removed photos of himself in the club shirt from social media, leaving only one with the Libertadores trophy, and has unfollowed the club.
Speaking on Friday, he said being with his national team helps him forget what is happening around his club and that he felt very happy.
Flamengo are interested in negotiating a move for Plata, and Cruzeiro have submitted a proposal to sign the forward. The club turned it down, as they want to bring in a replacement before allowing the number 19 to leave.
