Flamengo have confirmed the departure of Iago Teodoro to Orlando City this season, after limited chances under Filipe Luís. The club will retain a stake in the defender’s rights.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo will keep 30% of Iago’s economic rights for any future sale. Orlando City have paid 1.4 million dollars, R$ 7.3 million, but Volta Redonda hold 40% of the player’s rights, so Flamengo will not receive the full fee.
Iago captained Flamengo’s under-20s and joined in 2021 after impressing in Volta Redonda’s youth ranks. Having aged out of the under-20s and not in Filipe Luís’ plans for 2026, his future at the club had been uncertain.
He departs with a decorated youth record, including two Libertadores, two Club World Cups and one Brasileirão with the under-20s, plus a Copa do Brasil and a Supercopa at under-17. Across the academy sides he played 145 matches, scoring 25 goals with one assist.
Following his exit, Flamengo have four senior centre-backs. Léo Pereira and Léo Ortiz are starters, with Vitão and Danilo in reserve, while young João Victor also trains regularly with the first team.
