Flamengo ‘to finalise’ Almada deal with Atlético Madrid after positive signal | OneFootball

Flamengo have received a positive signal from Thiago Almada and are moving to agree a deal with Atlético Madrid. The final sum is expected to be above 20 million euros but not exceed 28 million, with instalments under discussion.

According to Argentina’s Guardia Alta, the Rio club accelerated talks after the player’s stance and are settling payment terms before filing a formal offer.

Almada wants to leave Atlético Madrid. Flamengo already have a verbal agreement with his representatives and are leaning on a good relationship with the Spanish side to complete the move.

Before the World Cup, the midfielder rejected proposals from Russia, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia. Flamengo sounded him out in June and were told he preferred to stay in Europe, but with no attractive offers so far he is now considering a return to South America.

River Plate had also pushed for him and thought a deal was close, but Flamengo gained ground in recent weeks. The board are pressing all parties to avoid a drawn-out saga as they seek to bolster bids for the Brasileirão and the Libertadores.

While also working on a centre forward and a winger, Flamengo are currently concentrating their efforts on Almada. He would be the headline name of this window.
