Former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has addressed the club’s ongoing legal battle with the Premier League.

The 70-year-old took charge of Manchester City between 2013 and 2016, guiding the Sky Blues to their second Premier League title during his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, alongside winning the League Cup in both 2014 and 2016.

Pellegrini replaced Roberto Mancini in east Manchester, and took charge of 167 matches across three years, registering 100 wins and scoring 373 goals.

The Chilean’s three-year spell has been subject to recent controversy, amid Manchester City’s ongoing battle with the Premier League regarding the 115 alleged financial breaches over a nine-year period.

The bombshell legal case, which is expected to be heard by an independent commission this Autumn, relates to financial information, profitability and sustainability, player and manager remuneration, failure to cooperate and UEFA regulations.

The charges came following a four-year investigation by the Premier League, and if found guilty, could lead to relegation from the top-flight.

Former Manchester City manager Pellegrini has addressed the charges, telling the BBC: “I am sure the fans of Manchester City are really happy with the way the club works and the way they play and the trophies they have won during all these years. Always you have criticism about a lot of things.”

The Chilean was speaking ahead of starting his 37th season in management, with Pellegrini continuing to manage La Liga outfit Real Betis.

Pellegrini has managed in six different countries during his career, including both Real Madrid and West Ham, as well as Manchester City.
