TeamTalk reports that Igor Tudor is expected to leave his role as Tottenham Hotspur interim manager by mutual consent, with former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton among the candidates to take charge before next month’s trip to Sunderland.
The report adds there was an internal agreement that a change would be made if Spurs lost to Nottingham Forest, and that Tudor is ready to step away following the death of his father, Mario.
Tudor took over after Thomas Frank’s departure last month. His first game brought a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal, and he is winless in five Premier League matches, earning one point with a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
Spurs lost 5-2 at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last 16 first leg in Spain, then won 3-2 at home in the return, but still went out. A 3-0 home defeat to Forest left them one point and one place above the relegation zone.
A shortlist has been drawn up including former Monaco manager Adi Hutter and Hughton, with both viewed as viable options. Hughton made over 300 appearances for the club, then spent 14 years on the staff as reserve-team manager, first-team coach, caretaker manager and assistant manager.
He left in February 2008 to join Newcastle as first-team coach, later taking the job permanently after an interim spell. Should Spurs proceed, the new interim’s first game would be at Sunderland on Sunday, April 12, as the Black Cats chase Europe and aim to deepen Tottenham’s troubles.
