Former under-17 coach on Corinthians sacking: "I can't say it was a shock"

After early eliminations in the Brasileirão and Paulistão Under-17, Corinthians decided to dismiss Raphael Laruccia, the category's coach. In an interview with GE, he spoke about the club's decision and highlighted the negative results, although he believed there were reasons to continue in the position.

“I can't say I was surprised because I know the football environment provides this kind of situation. The reason was heavily based on the recent results that were unexpected. The result was frustrating, and we are aware of our responsibility for it. If the reason for the dismissal was the results, I have nothing to question.“, Laruccia began.

“But there are many other reasons that would justify the continuation of the work. I will always respect the club's decision; it was a very important cycle, a very nice cycle, with a lot of learning. I understand there was a reason for the dismissal and many others for the continuation of the work. I respect the decision, and now it's time to think about new challenges and new goals“, he added.

Despite the negative results, the under-17 category managed to generate millions for the club's coffers. The two big names were Denner, who remains at the club until the middle of next year, and Kauê Furquim, who was bought by Bahia through the release clause.

“I believe the greatest legacy that the youth category can leave are the athletes harvested by the professional team. Also, situations where the youth category generates income, this is important. We left fruits for the club with the boys who were promoted and a significant amount received by the club“, evaluated the coach.

Raphael Laruccia was dismissed when Alex Brasil was the executive responsible for the youth categories. Days later, the professional was dismissed, and last Monday, Corinthians announced the hiring of Erasmo Dramini to take over the management of the department.
