Four INCREDIBLE names lined up to join Liverpool

Liverpool have a massive task at hand as they seek a new centre-back. They've got four sensational targets in mind.

There's no question that Liverpool need to make some magic happen at centre-back. The Reds face an incredibly uncertain future there, with all four of their first-team options in some sort of doubt.

Ibrahima Konate is the most obvious question mark. His contract expires at the end of the season and he's yet to agree a new deal. Time is ticking away there.

Joe Gomez was actually 'supposed' to leave Liverpool in the summer. A deal for Marc Guehi would have triggered his exit, only for both transfers to collapse.

Giovanni Leoni is a massive talent but one with a serious knee injury. We'll have to wait and see how he recovers from that and how quickly he can kick on as a player.

Then there's a biggest of them all - Virgil van Dijk. He remains the undisputed star of Liverpool's defence and quite honestly, we believe he's still the world's best defender.

However, he'll have one year left on his deal after this season and will be 36 if Liverpool give him a new one after that. The Reds need to think about a successor.

So with all that to contend with, it's no great surprise that the club have targets in mind. Elite ones at that.

Liverpool's most obvious centre-back target is Marc Guehi. They tried to sign him at the end of the summer transfer window, only for Crystal Palace to pull the plug on a deal at the very last moment.

He's out of contract at the end of the season, though, and reports suggest Liverpool will try again in January. It will be difficult, however, as there's increased competition the closer he gets to being a free agent.

Nico Schlotterbeck

Perhaps the most exciting transfer rumour in recent weeks is that Liverpool are sounding out a move for Nico Schlotterbeck. The Borussia Dortmund star is one of the best and most well-rounded centre-backs in Europe right now.

He'll have just one year left on his deal after this one and while Dortmund hope to get him to renew, other clubs are putting the pressure on. There might not be a better successor to Van Dijk than Schlotterbeck - so keep an eye on this one.

Ronald Araujo

Liverpool have been linked with Ronald Araujo for years now. Recent weeks have seen a resurgence in reports, though, and it sounds as though there’s a genuine opportunity to get him.

We will say, however, that Araujo is perhaps the least exciting name on this list. He’d still be a top signing but getting the likes of Guehi or Schlotterbeck feels like a better fit.

Then again, why stop at one?
